I got these 3 pullets from a local feed store and they were labeled as Golden Stars. I’m a new chicken owner and quickly learning that these are likely what is considered a red or gold sex link. I admit I should have done some more research, as I bought these 3 on a whim due to the Easter eggers not being ready yet, but I didn’t want my 2 Orpingtons to be alone until they arrived. I was told they were good egg layers so I said why not. They are about 3 weeks old.
I know it’s nearly impossible to sex chicks at this age, but because they are sex links i believe its easier to tell? I’ve read that pale yellow/white indicates cockerels. When I picked them up I got two yellow and one with a red head whom I call Red. I have been convinced that Red was likely cockerel because she’s very spicy in behavior. Constantly running up on the smaller of the flock to move them out of her way and picking food out of their mouth. She often “spars” with one of my larger lavender orpingtons. Then I learned cockerels should be all white or pale yellow. So I figured why not ask for some insight on my 3. By the way, these 3 out of my flock of 12(lavender Orpingtons,Easter eggers, sapphire gems, and silkies)are the most skiddish and absolutely do not like to be handled. Is that normal?

If they're sexlinks, the store is almost certainly right with them being pullets. Usually sexlink males don't even make it to the store
Is it unusual that they are lighter? In fact they were all lighter. I chose the red head because she was standing out over them all.

Do you have any idea what hatchery they came from. It concerns me that all are that light. All red sex link pullets that I am aware of are just that - red not white.

I’m going to call them in the morning and ask as they are now closed for the day. All the tag and their website says is Golden Star Pullets.

Here is a picture of the 3 in natural sunlight today from when I was cleaning. I believe I’m starting to see some red striping on the backs of two of them.
