Hi all -
Looking for suggestions on a good breed of chick to add to our flock next spring - It gets cold here in winter, warm in summer, and I am hoping to find a breed that is especially mouse-hungry! Thanks! Carolyn

Most breeds will likely consume mice or small birds. What I have noticed is that the chicken will invest considerable effort in catching the occasional mouse or small bird and consume but if I were to have a dozen mice available, chickens will not eat them all unless they afre pinkies or fuzzies. They may not have all that much need for protein and such meals may prove to be a challenge for the gizzard to process.

I've heard that Buckeyes are supposed to be really good at mousing. But my Naked Necks, Speckled Sussex, and Orpingtons will go after mice like a feeding frenzy of sharks!
