You didn't cause any problems and I don't think anyone was jumping on you - just that everyone has a different opinion and when you ask what they think they will often tell you.

There are many factors, dependent upon location, market demand, etc.

Around here you can expect to buy 'common pygmies' (ie any miniature goat) unregistered, no health care...just out of a field for anywhere from $30 to $50 for a buck and $40 to $100 for a doe. It just depends on how badly the owner wants to offload them.

Ugh! I can't imagine wanting the meat of a goat that has never been wormed.

My son shows goats and I've seen them sell for everything from $30 for a wether (really just pet quality) to $500 for a quality Boer buck (grand champion and proven sire).

A lot depends on your local market. Is the buck a proven sire? Are any of the nannies producing? Just based on the information you provided I would say a price of $200 seems fair. If the nannies do become good milk producers for you, then you got a bargain. If they don't, then the seller made out good. With unproven stock it's a risk.

my biggest concern would be four goats that haven't had shots or worming. Quarantine them good and make sure they are healthy before you bring them to your place. Also I wonder how tame they are.

Wild goats are a pain in the patoot to deal with. Been there and done that. Never, ever again.

W/out any real maintance care done I wouldn't pay over $50 each for them (probably less on the buck, unless he was just something really special). The last time I had unregistered mini goats (does, possibly bred) I sold them for $75 each, $50 for doelings, and $35 for my buckling. I bought these does w/ no care other then feeding and watering two weeks before they kidded for $35 each, and probably wouldn't have payed anymore then that for them. I wormed, vaccinated, dehorned, trimmed feet, etc. the kids were disbudded, wormed, vaccinated, well handled and extremely friendly. I had one lady tell me she could get them cheaper (she was interested in one of the doelings) and I told her good luck, she's right she could definately get one cheaper, but she probably wouldn't find one that had had the care I'd given them. I think these things do make a difference in price and it doesn't sound like any of these things have been done w/ these guys so I wouldn't pay a price like it has. And if they don't look like Nigis I wouldn't call them that, I'd just call them mini goats (assuming they are under 25in).

Now I charge alot more for my registered goats, and also think they are well worth it. I have to agree that sometimes people do want something for nothing and don't consider what the breeder has put into them.

what you guys dont realise are there are plenty of people (big time breeders) who do not worm, vaccinate etc. they use other methods of controlling parasites and disease

not vacc, wormed etc does not automatically mean neglected

What idiots, nigerians are dairy goats not meat~

registered wethers can go from 75-125 and unreg 50 is fair!
Registered does are 200-300 and unregistered 100-150 and 100 is fair
They can nock of triplets , twins and single kids

That's pure nigerians....now mutts which would be cheaper!

$300 for 4 goats is good but i am concered about no shots which should be done yearly and no deworming which is monthly! Are these goats sick? Why is she getting rid of them? Why isn't she current on those thing needed?

Buyer beware....price shouldn't matter but how they were cared for should!!!

And not deworming a goat can kill them~ vacc's a different story

I'm just going by what info is given, and the way it was said I am taking the no deworming/vacc. to imply the goats aren't getting any care other then food and water. Worms can kill a goat and I realize people have different methods of preventing and treating them, and I'd consider all those things deworming, even if they aren't using a chemical dewormer. And I also realize many don't believe in vaccinating, but like I said I'm taking the original post to imply the goats aren't getting any special care.
