Soo..I am having the watering issue with my 2 little babies. I used a chicken waterer for the first 2 weeks. Giving them a deeper bowl of water when they were outside to clean their eyes and nose. Now, they are getting bigger (soo much bigger, i can't believe how fast these buggars grow) and the chick waterer is no longer good enough. I tried an automatic cat water thing, deeper and larger than the chick one. They made a huge mess over an hours time..brooder was soaked from one end to the other, except where the heat light was pointed. looks like it rained in there lol

So now I need idea's for a spill/play proof water container.

I get those little waterers where you fill the jug like they have at office water stand things. I cover the bowl part in chicken wire and push it down only enough so a thin amount of water covers the center of the wire. They can drink from this but if they try to crawl in and play it is not too fun. They STILL will make a mess, just less of one. You can also make a gravity waterer- instructions are at my site www.windchyme.com in the goose section. It also cuts down mess dramatically (though again they still manage to make a bit of a mess).

That's a great idea, I"ll have to try it.

Thanks.

I've had goslings get stuck in the milk carton and die. I think they couldn't figure out how to get their head back out even though the hole was plenty big...still not sure how that happened. I saw a professionally made goose waterer a while back, but I can't find it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

I've got a shipment of chicken nipples coming in and may actually try those as a fresh-water source.

The problem is, any water they can get into and bathe, or get their head into, they'll make filthy. And, they NEED to be able to bathe and wash their heads.

So my idea is to have some form of waterer that gives them a shot at a fresh, non-filthy drink. They deserve that much.
