Hi,

Posting for a friend as I don't know the answer or what to do as I do not have geese or gooslings yet.
He has a goosling that hatched this morning but the yolk sac is still attached. Is there anything she can do for the
little thing. Will it make it? It was hatched under a broody. I don't know what kind of goose I forgot to ask. she called
at 5am and woke me from a sound sleep so I don't think I even asked.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks cj

You just have to keep it from drying out so it can be absorbed. Wrap the goslings yolk sac with a warm wet paper towel or something like that.

I had one hatch last night this way, the yolk sack was small and the gosling was still attached to the umbilical so I sprayed her down with warm water, gently slid her bottom half back into the shell and then put the egg and her bottom into a sandwich bag with a damp paper towel inside. She has been resting on and off and seems to be doing well so far. She still chirps at me and wiggles around between naps. I will check her in a few hours when everyone else wakes up we are not making so much noise. I'll be watching to hear your updates as well.

Thank you for the information. Well I know she did not do that. The chick is out of the shell and under the hen.
She is at work and will not be able to do this until she is home about 6. Will that be too late. I am at work and an hour away so I
can not go do it for her.

How long does it take for the goosling to absorb the yoke?
Is this a unual situation or is it common in gooslings.

Thank you

Its hard to guess at how long it will take to reabsorb. Kind of depends on size/severity. As an update on my gosling. Her yolk sack did absorb overnight and she has re-hatched, pushing herself back out of the shell and bag that I put her back into. Last I checked she was still attached to the umbilical cord with just a slight protruding navel, but no yolk sack to be seen. That is good news for me.
