There are stalks that have silk for four ears. I will select for that trait along with short season. The main trait I want is a medium small kernel that a bantam can easily swallow. Throwing ear corn to them during the winter when it’s pretty normal to have them penned up and not free ranging gives the birds something to do to help keep boredom at bay. They have to work a bit more for food. I feed them free choice layer crumble but the ear corn is a boredom reliever and has some nutritional content.
