Once I found myself lodged in the ER dehydrated from a GI bug. I had my dad living with me at the time and he couldn't be left alone all day and night too due to his dementia. My B/P was dangerously low, my potassium in the basement and electrolytes way off due to the vomiting and diarrhea. They wanted to admit me. I put my foot down and said NO and why. They kept telling me I was in bad shape but my cousin who had driven me to the ER told them in no uncertain terms that I couldn't leave my father alone. They finally got the message and asked me if I would stay long enough for them to pump two liters of fluid in me along with potassium and antiemetics/antidiarrhea medicine and I said yes I would do that.I have thought hard on this and wonder how Tom would do with me gone but its at the point where I may not have a choice. Nancy said if I go she would come get me
Point is, if you tell them that you cannot be admitted, as long as your life isn't in danger, they should accommodate you.
I'm so glad Nancy is there to help you out. To me it sounds as though you are all three to the point where you need somebody there with you every day. I know in IL the dept of aging had a program where they would put a caregiver in a home with an elderly person 40 hours a week. Don't know if you have that program where you are but it might be worth you checking into.
