Granny's gone and done it again

SIL is safe with us now after saying goodbye to her house right where Milton is supposed to make landfall soon as a major hurricane. We will not get any wind or rain this far away. We could use a little rain but not more than an inch.
I feel bad for your SIL. That has to be a terrible feeling knowing your home is in imminent danger.

Well Granny Land I'm going to try and take a nap. No naps yesterday that I remember actually getting some sleep and no sleep until after daylight this morning. Eyes are very heavy now so I'm going to give it a shot. I think a shot might help me sleep right now but there is nothing in this house for a shot. Not even enough for a dose of cough med. I'll check back in later to see what all is going on where. I'm going to follow the hurricane to see how high the water gets at SIL house in FL. She brought all the keepsakes that would fit in her car.

Special needs attorney
Called elder law attorney
Someone who does trusts and wills. But it had to be one who works with 'Special Needs'. They have to understand Medicaid laws.
That is how I bought my house. Do it now because it takes a lot of meticulous planning so he doesn't lose his benefits at any time.

Well... Welfare does not. But the states have the err, "freedom" to decide how to distribute and control welfare and medicare, as they first receive the federal money.

Mom recently had to jump through hoops for some new state authorization to keep her medicare in order to also keep her health insurance... even though she's on SS. They made it such a trial I blurted "They make it like this so some people give up!" and unfortunately it's probably the less capable who can't get it done.
Thankfully they approved it before the deadline expires, so she's ok.

It may be the best option Granny has is to rent out the property and move to a state where she can get services without it being counted against the property. And maybe by the time she (in the very distant future) passes, the laws will have changed or a court decision will have prevented them from taking the house from her family.
I have both Medicare and Tri Care and the advantage plan. No problem.
My mother had 2 mentally incapable children at home. She couldn't work. I'm thinking the state realized how less expensive it would be to have her at home taking care of them rather than they being placed somewhere. Granted, they received SSI, but still less where they would be paying for residential also. When she passed I was granted Gaurdian to my sister. My brother is able to live with a roommate. He's done well on his own. With the help of the state getting this place for him with lowered rent. Thank the heavens.
