Granny's gone and done it again

I got 6 hrs. I have professional cleaners here. Spendy. I only want base boards, fans, stove, and 2 bathrooms done. And oh..3 basement windows done outside. Spendy. 🫤

I love both holidays but thought this was hilarious lol

any chance of adding a camera in the coop?
Yep, we have been thinking about that. We have two game cameras and a GoPro. The game cameras are probably the best bet as they can record more, are motion activated and have the best storage so it would last all night.

I found one new tunnel this morning in the run. Funny enough, it was under the old chicken tractor A-frame I have in the main coop for shade for the birds. A fourth of the floor is solid and that is where the tunnel was, in one end and out the other. I tipped the whole thing and nothing ran out so it's definitely hunting. Also found a tunnel under the fence. I poked a wire rod down it and it ended about a foot from the opening. It seems to be hitting all the old mouse tunnels. Once I get the cracks in the floor sealed up I won't be as worried about it trying to dig into the coop. I also plan on putting a lip of concrete around the edge where the metal siding hits the floor on the inside.

Danged thing can eat all the mice it wants as long as it stays out of the coop. I was surprised to see that we have two varieties of weasels in Missouri, a small one, as big as a large mouse and then the standard variety about 17 inches long.

I watched an interesting vid on YouTube today by a guy who showed how to make 'safe' bait for mouse and rat control around other animals by mixing one part jiffy corn bread mix to 2 parts baking soda. Put it in plastic containers that you put a one inch or so hole in the lid and you can set them around for rodent control. He said the baking soda makes a lethal amount of gas in rodent's stomachs and digestive tracks and they die from the distension and blockage. He had 19 other baits you could use including peanut butter mixed with baking soda. He also used used fine mortar mix although he said you had to be more careful with that as it could harm other animals if they ate it. I may try the Jiffy mix with the baking soda. He said the important thing was always to use two parts soda to one part of whatever you mixed with it.

Yaay for getting the gravel you need! :yesss:

A weasel!? Oh my goodness, how do you deal with that? You need a dachshund!
We have two border collie mix dogs, one is BC with Jack Russell who is sheer death on rodents and will go to ground in a heartbeat. I've been showing her the holes I find, she sticks her nose down in them, snorks a big old inhale of the air inside and walks away telling me there is no one at home.

The Cattle dogs would make short work of it for sure but they would have to run loose and frankly I wouldn't wish that off on any horseman or buggy going down the road. They are too movement driven and would go after it. Would be nice if they would just go after the weasel but I'm not holding my breath. Our first cattle dog, Dingo, killed a weasel in our back yard when we were commuting to Illinois so I know they can catch them. Unbelievably fast dogs.

I don't know what I'm going to do about it. I'm hoping to discourage it from digging under the coop but I have to give it credit, it's taking care of the outside mice for me at the moment. What puzzles me is that I have been tossing bait killed mice outside the fence by the hot wire so the dogs and chickens won't touch them and the next day the mice are gone. Now how is that critter eating poisoned mice without turning it's little toes up?

I tried it with rats and they wouldn't touch it. But they are smarter then mice.
Wouldn't you love walking into the chicken coop and hear a 'pop', turn around and see a mouse exploding into the air? And before you got over your surprise- a couple more'pops' as nice come exploding out of their tunnels? And somewhere, a nest of baby mice are now starving to death?? Talk about abuse!!

I asked my nephew if shooting a deer with a bow and arrow is cruelty. They often don't die instantly. You don't have to do much to a dog till it's considered cruelty and they are all animals.
I told him I'm not accusing him, it was just a thought I had and he grinned. I know the line has to be drawn somewhere but they keep coming up with rules and regulations for just about anything
Edit: you know I'm joking

I got myself some fresh cranberries today. The shelves with jellied cranberry sauce with cane sugar are always empty and all that's left are the ones sweetened with fructose.
I will cook them with water (no sugar),cool and blenderized them.
I will mix some jello with less water and when almost jelled, beat until frothy, add some unsweetened applesauce and the cranberries. Jel and cool for a refreshing side dish with the Thanksgiving meal.

Ever mix cranberry sauce and mayo, spread on bread like you usually use mayo and add sliced chicken/turkey. That's a good sandwich
