Granny's gone and done it again

It sucks that Drs have that much power over us with their own opinions
I apologize in advance for stepping on anyone's toes here but I worked too long as a nurse taking care of people who were spending their senior years suffering from not taking care of themselves in their early and middle adulthood.

Why expect doctors to care when people don't care for themselves?

There are a lot of smokers out there. I tell people I know who smoke the same thing. Some day you will be forced to make a choice between your life or a cigarette. Why not make the right choice now and quit.

I watched my mother slowly die from frequent pneumonias caused from lung damage from smoking her entire life. She quit smoking when she was in her mid 60s. It was too late.

Smoking has been proven to cause a multitude of health problems that only get worse as we get older. Many doctors don't want to touch smokers when it comes to doing surgery on them. Many docs insist that their patients stop smoking for 2 weeks prior to surgery.

My own doctor husband had more than one smoker ask him what they could do to help their eyesight and he always told them, quit smoking.

It's your choice. But please don't bash doctors. I'm married to one.

I didn't even know his name and it is a hospital out of town.
For awhile a lot of my Drs had heavy accents and I couldn't understand them right so I'd come home with unanswered questions. When I need to see a nephrologist and her name sounded Indian, I explained I had a hard time with accents and Id like to wait till there is aDr available without an accent. I was very nice but they got angry and hung up. I called back and talked with the supervisor and she got indignant too. I went to a different office then. When I worked in the hospital and people couldn't understand the dietician, they were allowed to have a different dietician.

Guess you could say I'm at war and I'm taking no prisoners!
I was infested out there one time (maybe more) with mice and I am terrified of them. I drowned a ton of them just by flooding my coop (clay soil) and as they were trying to escape I turned a hard blast from my hose on them and it didn't take much to kill them. The barn cat stood on the other end and caught those that were escaping. He would dispatch them quickly and take them to the chickens who were gobbling them up! I have never seen such a sight. I had a small water container of 10 gallons and a bunch of them run under it. I had it flipped upside down. I took the cat and threw it under there and I could hear all kinds of banging then It got quiet so I used a stick to flip it up and there were 7 dead mice!

I believe that. The house we got a year ago has gone up by $20,000. It's out still considered a seller's market?
It's good right now. Dropped from 6% to 5%. Hoping that's good enough incentive for those looking.
When we moved in we never dreamed our home would be worth close to half a million. We'll take it.

We'll stay here with bare essentials and leave when someone comes to look. That's what the folks are doing in the home..and others we've looked at are doing. We want to sell first. The equity that's built up after the 18 years of living here is insane.
We have 2 contenders right now for buying. Just have to find out if they're OK with contingency to sell.
did you go look at a house today?

I fully understand and I don't blame him or Drs for feeling that way. Drs can decide how to handle things through their own discretion.
As can patients as well. They can find another Dr. In Granny's case, it would have been more ethical for him to tell her he won't do it unless she stops smoking instead of telling her after the procedure.

My late sister's house was valued at half a million many years ago and I told her to take the money and run. This was in Santa Barbara, CA and it was just a 3BR 2BA simple ranch. She said no she was going to do a bunch of remodeling first. I said that was a waste, the buyers would want to make the changes they wanted but she insisted she knew best and I knew nothing. Well she messed around and messed around and the bottom dropped out of the market and suddenly you couldn't give a house away. People were upside down and were literally walking away from beautiful fancy homes way nicer than hers. This would have been in about 2005 or thereabouts I think. Take the money and run!

I agree

I agree and he shouldn't have tied her down and hurt her. That sounds like malpractice and deserves a lawsuit, not a bad review.

I've never had a doctor or anyone in the medical professions who was anything but compassionate and professional with me and mine.
