You did it. Was your DH ever in rehab? I just called the place. They said Tom was very quiet and maybe a little confused about why he was there. They just called me wanting me to come in and sign a DNR. I told her I didn't know what to do. They cant tell me if he has his hearing aids or not. Told them I would be in tomorrow.
No rehab. I was able to do a lot for him. Some things I couldn't. Remember I had Austin and Bronwyn here. They moved in specifically to help me with him. Then it got to the point where I needed hospice help. I couldn't get him to shower. I'll never forget the guilt when the gal came to help him and she got him into the tub..he's facing away from us and asks..now what? I cried. I thought he wasn't taking showers because he just didn't want to. No. He had forgotten how. For all I know, he didn't know what the word shower meant. From then on, there were more times than not that I just figured he didn't know or understand what I was asking. Asking them questions is one we really need to be careful with our Dementia folks.

nurse just called also wanting me to come in. Said he keeps trying to leave. Caught him on the elevator I guess
Normal. I worked in a nursing home where they had things on certain patient's ankles that would alert the staff if they got close to a door. Whoever was free at the moment went running.

Granny, if you DON'T do a DNR, then if he goes into cardiac arrest, they HAVE to do "heroic measures" to try to save him. Then it can be all kinds of difficult to get those stopped later.
At his age, CPR would crush so many ribs! We had a sister in our church that fell to the floor, no heartbeat. Another sister knew CPR. She said she could hear the ribs cracking and breaking as she proceeded. The woman didn't make it. My neighbor. :(
