Granny's gone and done it again

Didn’t you have a biopsy on your thyroid nodules? Now you are having problems with swallowing?
Meds have gotten harder to swallow. Saw the surgeon this afternoon. Ma called him and told him I was having trouble and they got me in within 4 hours. He then got me worked in this afternoon for another ultrasound. No results yet but will know soon.

No rehab. I was able to do a lot for him. Some things I couldn't. Remember I had Austin and Bronwyn here. They moved in specifically to help me with him. Then it got to the point where I needed hospice help. I couldn't get him to shower. I'll never forget the guilt when the gal came to help him and she got him into the tub..he's facing away from us and asks..now what? I cried. I thought he wasn't taking showers because he just didn't want to. No. He had forgotten how. For all I know, he didn't know what the word shower meant. From then on, there were more times than not that I just figured he didn't know or understand what I was asking. Asking them questions is one we really need to be careful with our Dementia folks.
So just do it without asking?

So just do it without asking?
It's according to the question. Example, I was so tempted to ask him ..who am I? It would be sad, on both parts if he didn'tknow the answer. It got to the point where I knew the answer to that anyway.
Asking if they want a drink or food..still, it's according to how far along they are in the illness. Yes. It got so I just prepared a meal for him and decided what drink would go with it. I knew he loved a certain drink. That was easy. Food too. He really started liking Mushroom soup! Probably because it was easy to swallow. Soups were. He got dysphagia pretty bad.
