Wow thanks! I didn't really know about that. the soil in our yard is very dark and someone told me that's good, I just don't know why lol. I'm pretty clueless

Nope. It's the type of soil that has a lot of clay in it. A clay loam.

During the ice age glaciers formed across the continent and when they receded they carried the top soil from the south north to the mid west. In MO I had that same black clay loam that required a lot of organic matter to be added to it.

I did not know you could know that much about soil. interesting lol

Our MO garden soil would bake in the summers when it didn't rain and cracks would form that would swallow a leg if you didn't watch where you stepped.

Looking at the radar the white sugar sandy beaches south of me will be covered in snow later this afternoon. Not exactly bikini weather.
