Granny's gone and done it again

What do you mean by oil? We have natural gas and electric.
We have two heating oil tanks under the front porch. The heater/burner is run electric but it burns oil that heats the water boiler. Water runs through the baseboard. (Not radiators) So we use oil all year to heat our water. But if the power goes off, we have no heat.
This area is the coal regions but the government did away with a lot of coal burning. There is no natural gas pipe line through here. A lot of people use propane.
We got a propane heater as back up. Put up some extra carbon monoxide alarms. The heat lasts longer then our baseboards but it gives off a slight smell. But sometimes I can smell oil from the burner when it starts up as well

Last winter our thermostat went blank and I couldn't turn the heat on. It was the first time I ever knew the thermostat runs on batteries.
We have a lock on the front door that runs on battery as well, need no keys. Just a code. One day I realized DH threw out the directions to the lock. I need that when the battery dies. :idunno

Maybe you can find an owners manual online?
