Granpa's Automatic treadle feeder

I also have the Grandpa treadle feeder in the large size. I love it! Yes, it was expensive but I never have food on the ground around it. It's covered so no feathers or poop in the feed and it keeps out the small pests. The large size holds a lot of feed. I've filled it and left for 4-5 days and there is still feed in it when I get home.

I just started to use this in the training mode but my challenge is that the birds jump on the top part that closes. It isn't closing all the way (since it is in training mode) but I worry that this will close on their heads. Have you had any issues?

That is always a risk in these guillotine style feeders. We made a few hundred of the ubiqutous Chinese style feeder with a lid like the Grandpa feeder and market it under the M.A. 2017, Marie Antoinette, name . Few people are going to call you upset when they lose a bird if you name the feeder appropriately. The other huge problem with this style of feeder is the need to block it open during training. The bird first learns that the lid isn't supposed to move when used, then the lid starts moving during use... then the very critters you spent the money trying to prevent from using the feed are learning where the feed is stored.

If you do go this route Amazon has some Chinese clones that are just as good if not better than the Grandpa brand for 50% less.
