Hi all,
I'm in the UK, my ducks are outside day & I would like to replenish the grass for them. However I don't know which grass seed would be best to use - can anyone help?
Ideally fast growing would be great, but needs to be duck friendly so not to harm them. Thank you!

Instead of grass, plant oats. Looks like grass, grows fast, and the seeds are good for them. Cheaper too -- a 50lb bag of oats costs about $15

Oats are good, so is amaranth, and there are some other plants that they like to nibble, like comfrey (it is vigorous, so if you plant it, be sure to let them nom it down, or you can cut it up to 3 times a year and use it as mulch if you don't give it to the ducks) and lettuce and other leafy greens.

My Cayugas free range a part of the day on mixed clover/Bluegrass yard. The yard came like that with the house.

The love to eat chicory (blooms & tender parts only), dandelions (all parts), daisies, all of the various clovers and wild strawberries (berries only).

I used micro clover to re-seed some sparse patches.

White dutch clover and strawberry globe clover was already present in the yard.

clover has the benefit of adding nitrogen to the soil (good for plants) and provides hiding spots for earthworms.

In their day pen area I planted a green cover crop blend of oats, field peas, alfalfa and annual rye grass. They've nommed on all of these plants equally.

My girls get their fill on bugs & worms first then they focus on their favorite "weeds" and then they eat the clover and grass. They'll eat any part of the clover but they really only eat the tender grass bits. If i chop it for them they'll eat all parts of the grass.

Thank you.
I will try some of these.
I have some patches that need replacing.
At the moment the boys are enjoying the dirt & getting all the bugs etc.
Getting all dirty then giving me their sweet innocent looks. Lol :)
