They are asking for Article V
proposing amendments to the United States Constitution that impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, as well as limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government This includes to set limit the terms of office for its officials and for members of Congress.
(Sorry rebel Article V is an article to ask for a constitutional amendment, you have to be more specific)

I dont think it will go through. This bill is not what congress or senate want to even look at. They will black ball this article and possible get some of Georgia's elected imprisoned on charges of sedition and treason. Getting one state to get ont he ball for an Art. 5 is hard enough, getting 33 more when the congress/senate/president know about it.... might as well try to move a mountain. Sad isnt it?

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose amendments to this Constitution, or, on the application of the legislatures of two thirds of the several states, shall call a convention for proposing amendments, which, in either case, shall be valid to all intents and purposes, also as part of this Constitution, when ratified by the legislatures of three fourths of the several states, or by conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other mode of ratification may be proposed by the Congress


They are calling for the states to bypass congress an amend the Constitution without them. It has never been done that way but it is legal. Not sure a state has ever even brought it up. If 33 states follow them congress has no say in what happens... It would take 38 states to vote any proposed amendment in though.

Still has to pass the Ga House but I bet it will an even if it does not go anywhere after that it is history in the making. It is the highest power the state holds short of session...

They can try but at least half the states are to this point to. I was under the impression that Ga was waiting on Tx to act first so I was shocked to read the senate passed it.

Ga my well expect this to end in war. I know when I first read it my first though is it would start a war. Secession has been debated in the state.

The US is bankrupt. Its military is depleted an out of country. Ga has one of the heaviest armed population in the world and is one of the states that has its own military. It manufacturers the latest fighter jets an arms. It also has a coastline, mines an farm land.


Yes the fed could pick a fight over this but it would not be an easy task. I dont think any state would back an invasion of Ga no matter how much they may disagree with it. If asked to then many, like in 1860 will rebel. Unlike 1860 though the president does not have a strong backing in any state. People will not fight for him over this but if pushed they will fight him over it.


I have been saying for years that a fight is coming. This is not it unless the fed wants to make it one. But I bet this will be the last legal attempt that is tried before people start fighting...

Not sure what will happen from here on out... Just gonna watch an see...

Texas also proposed a Secession from the Union. The problem is once people realized how much of their daily lives is paid for by the US govt. They couldnt get enough people to sign off on it, even though in Nov 2012 they had over a million signatures to bring the Secession to the house. I suspect GA. will be very similar. Tell the people nobody will be repairing the roads, Your power will be cut off completeley or reduced, no more SSI, welfair, or unemployment unless your state has its own insurance that is NOT backed by federal dollars. Oh and tell the farmers and manufacturers they will no longer get federal tax breaks or subsidies.

Another thing to consider is if GA did go forward with a secession of the union anyone in GA would therefore forfeit their US citizenship. This means no traveling to see family until GA creates a border security and its own passport as your US passport will be voided. The problem with Secession is that unless a state is ready to be self sufficient and to my knowledge there isnt one state out there that is... its suicide. Worst yet the govt. knows it and would do everything in its power to make life very difficult so the state would fold back in. For instance you said GA was on the coast right? Thats US coastal waters so GA would be tresspassing which could be construed as an act of war.

But there is a difference in part the civil war was fought because some thought it was unconstitutional to a state to decide on secession, But Texas when Congrees accepted their state constitiution (after the civil war mind you) allowed them to have a provision that they could succede the union, also they could divide themselves into 4 states.

Well, as some of you predicted earlier in the threads, hubby's unemployment stopped because Congress is undecided to continue with unemployment benefits. Jobs are out there but lacks skills or experience is causing a rift for the people in town. (Decatur, IL....number one city in the USA with highest unemployment). Talks of CAT going to lay off some more. CAT employees do not believe that CAT will pull out or do a "sweep" of their employees going out the door. Ham radio bandwaves informed us that CAT is building factories in Thailand and sending USA built tractors over there to be completed. Funny a few employees there said, trucks are built but no orders coming in like the corporation said in Jan when they "won" bid from Australia to produce more trucks/tractors for them. More layoffs predicted in March and employees said it won't happen. It has happened before last year and the year before that when my hubby got laid off. It will happen, it is a matter of time, people in this town is getting restless, with high unemployment, lack of jobs to "fit" the employees (meaning blue color jobs for white color employees, no skills, qualifications). Sure you can go back to college, in the hopes of landing a job you studied for (according IDES), and once you graduated, there ARE no jobs available or employers have been really really picky.

Hubby is frustrated, angry and depressed about the job outlook, kept saying we WILL be heading for the Depression. I remain optimist, what goes down must come up tactic. He has been looking in the past year and three months, thru all the temp services, same response, week after week "sorry, we don't have anything for you but please do come back next week, we might have something for you" or " we will take names" or "we will call you"........nada, and he makes the point to keep checking back. Employment office clerks told all the people coming in waves last month, UI benefits cut off and IDES sign in website got some bugs going on, informed all of them there ARE jobs out there, you are not trying hard enough, and if you don't keep up with your temp services, you will be denied of your UI benefits if and when you get them. We do not have ANY information when or where or how you will get your UI benefits but you STILL have to recertify again and again weekly. There will be NO backpay for "waiting" for your UI benefits.

Sucks! We went to Public Aid office last week. This month, we will only live on my ssd benefits of a meager 910 dollars a month..... glad I stock piled some groceries last month but it won't last long. My SSD will only cover so much of most of our bills but not for food, feed or gasoline for work/doctor's trips or my RX. My Medicare RX has been denied that I must pay for ALL of my meds out of pocket and pay it in cash to keep the costs low as possible.

Brace yourselves, Decatur folks, it is going to be a very bumpy ride when CAT downsize even more, ADM headquarters moving upstate and who knows what else will happen in this town. Our town is so full of "service" employers....restuarants, fast food, grocery stores, hospital/doctors office, retail stores but no manufactering, State Farm, automotive factories and two factories still remaining so far are Staley and ADM.

When times and situations are like this, it requires some tough decisions and sacrifices. I was in a very similar situation as you in 1994. The economy in California was in the toilet. Home values went down about 30% or more, and construction jobs were scarce. We moved to where the work was. Left family and friends so that we could make a living. It was the best move we ever made. You might have to consider a move to someplace like N. Dakota or Texas. In N.Dakota the french fry cook is making $15 and hour at McDonalds. Don't stay where you are if it's not working out. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

Lets fix some assumptions...

No it is payed by locals. The money just goes to the fed to let them skim some off before sending it back.

All of this money an manpower is from inside the state to... SSI is a government contractual obligation anyway. People live outside the US an even give up citizenship all the time an are still entitled to that money. Not that they would still get it cause working people would stop paying in an cripple the system..

You assume people care about a tax break for a tax that they no longer have to pay...

With the fed out of the way, most states are pretty self sufficient an 2 or 3 together are. The fed on the other hand needs state funds.

The US under international law can only claim water off its own border. It is owned by the state it borders.

This is an interesting debate. Considering the size of the US it is surprising that it has managed to remain as one country for so long. That same land mass for example in Europe, would be comprised of many different independent nations with their own legislatures and very separate identities. We see what has happened in Eastern Europe with the political change and redefinition of countries and governments, and the western part of Russia which has gone the same way. Perhaps this could happen in the US? I wonder what the support for such a notion would be?

#1Welfare programs are generally funded by the fed through state agencies. And with the percentage of GA on federal un-employment and food assistance... ouch
#2 It is a requirement you be and prove your citizenship to collect SSI. Your road system I suspect is funded through the state which asks for subsidies from the fed.
#3So your saying GA is going to become its own country and nobody is going to pay any form of taxes? I give 10yrs before GA looks like Ghana.
#4 Which states are self sufficient? Does GA have enough of an economy to support itself and trade with the outside world? I know WA state has alot of exports but we import a hell of a lot of stuff too.
#6 I would love to see where your getting your information. The use claim on waters extends quite a ways and GA unless it made its case to NATO would have no rights to waters. Nor do I suspect does GA have the ability to defend or inspect its harbors from terrorists or foreign nationals.
