A few days ago, I noticed one of my hens was lethargic, not moving around much. It's very cold out now so most of that day she just stood in the corner of the coop, while the others moved and jumped around, competing for food like normal. She will not eat on her own, she looks at the feeder but will not pickup any of the pellets. I even offered her some scratch, looked at it but didn't even bend down to pick any up. I then knew something was wrong.
So at day 2, I brought her into the house and started force feeding her some scrambled eggs, and a mixture of yogurt with coconut oil, and poultry cell. It's been a couple of days, but there's no improvement. She is has green runny poop. Her crop is not impacted, nor does it have a sour smell. I've been massaging her crop several times per day. The food I've been giving her seems to be passing through, but she still has green runny poop.
I'm not sure if I should start a dose of corid for 7 days or start a dose of goat dewormer for 5 or start her on nystatin.
I would appreciate a thorough an accurate treatment plan from an experienced member that has dealt and cured the exact issue. I don't just want to guess myself and start the wrong treatment protocol.

Hello, just read your post, sorry to hear about your sick hen, I noticed something similar with 1 of my hens about 2 weeks ago, its been unseasonably colder this winter as well, compared to our milder winters. I quarantined her, been giving her herbs, and ACV in her water, lots of garlic, aloe vera, turmeric and ginger, also made a warm mash of oats, and combined other herbs mixed with a couple of TBS of her feed and noticed 2 days ago that the watery green poop has now normalizing, right now its back to little pasty and brown, drinks lots of water, has good color in her eyes, wattles and comb, is alert and active...dont know what happened, i attributed it perhaps to that colder than average riff, i plan to keep her quarantined, at the very least until she's back to laying eggs, i see the improvement, albeit slowly. the other chickens are fine...I know this may not help you in your case....I'd recommend you continue to seek advice from the forum, and perhaps a vet, just wanted to share with you my experience in a similar situation. Good luck with the hen...

thank you for sharing your experience. I've done a great deal of reading on this forum. Most members have said that green poop is an indication of poor or no nutrition at all. And that could be caused by her not eating obviously, but the lack of appetite is most likely an intestinal tract imbalance. Before trying any medicine, I'm going to keep pushing the mash I've been preparing (wet layer pellets, coconut oil, molasses, turmeric, garlic, and egg yolk) and water with poultry cell by syringe. I'll do this for the next few days thru the weekend and see if she improves. If not, then I'll come back here for more advise.

Be careful, garlic can be toxic on high doses.
How old is she? Has she laid recently?

I see what you mean, my poultry have never had medicine, I even deworm organically, for years, and have very good success with that method. i read all manner of stuff on he rsymptomst myself and most of if scared the b'Jesus out of me, from yeast infections in the croup to Marecks disease, my hen's symptoms just didn't seem fit into those categories. I was also thinking it could have been maybe some sort of dehydration, many animals including horses out here are not used to drinking icy cold water which happened recently bcuz of the cold spell, many horses down here colic as a result, i keep my horses water bins inside the stalls which tend to keep several degrees warmer. We've been fortunate. i will keep checking to see if you've posted any updates to follow the progress if you dont mind,

my hen is 2 years old, Jersey Giant, hasn't laid any eggs about 2 weeks now, which is when i noticed her a little off. she was drinking excessive amounts of water up until 2 days ago when i she's back to normal drinking pattern for her. she's about 7lbs, thanks for the tip on the garlic. surprising.

We're on day 2 of force feeding mash and pushing fluids with syringe. She's still not eating on her own, she just sits on the perch in the crate. Several times a day, I carry her out of the crate so she walks around the room for exercise. She still has an occasional green runny poop still. I have a small container of scratch in the crate but she still doesn't touch it. At least she doesn't appear to be losing weight or body mass. Will continue this pattern for the next few days.

good morning, thanks for the update, you sound like a good chicken Mom!...lol.....so she's not showing deterioration or other "clinical" signs...good thing your keeping up with this routine, it may very well be whats' saving her from withering away....I can tell you that my JG hen (Pippin) has had less watery green poop and more solid poop the last 2 days, I cut back on the herbs a bit, and less garlic at the recommendation of Nutthatched-forum member, i stopped her full mash ration and as of today she's back on her regular feed, Kalmbach Henhouse Reserve and alternate the Purina Layena and the Kalmbach Layer pellets, trying the Purina brand for the first time, lets see how the chickens respond.....she's got her appetite back, is active and energetic, Im going to keep her under quarantine to continue monitoring until she starts to lay eggs again...discovered she likes watching the Nature Channel and the Jerry Springer Show on tv......lol...good luck, keep up the good work!

End of day 4. She's still not eating on her own, but she's a bit more active; she's walking around more without me encouraging her to move around. She pecks at the bowl that has the scratch but I don't see her actually eating any of it. She had a couple or normal looking turds in the morning, but late afternoon she did another runny green poop. I will keep updating her condition here as time permits.

Snickers can now rest in peace.
A few minutes ago, before going to bed, I checked on her. She looked normal, she was on her perch and looking around attentively. I approached the crate, she looked up and I know she was aware of my presence, as always. So I turned off the light in the family room and I went to my bedroom. As I brushed my teeth, I heard a loud commotion in her crate, I rushed towards her and I heard her shaking around and flapping her wings. I first thought this silly girl is dust bathing in her crate, but as I got closer I could now see that she was belly side up, then suddenly she stopped all movement and went limp; immediately after her skin and wadles started to turn yellow. I knew then her heart had just stopped. Could she have had a heart attack? Just an hour earlier she was alive and walking around the room outside her crate. I'm baffled. If anyone has any thoughts, I welcome your explanation. She was only about 3 years old.
