Hello to everyone! I've been keeping indoor quail as pets for a couple years now, and all the knowledgeable folks on this forum have helped my family so much by sharing what they know in articles and other threads. I recently got some new hens from a local breeder and wanted to make an account here so I could ask about some health issues they're having. I assume the best way to do that is to make a separate thread outside of the introductions area so I will do that after I get finished with this post. :) But for now here's the questionnaire and some pics of my girls.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I've had a small flock of indoor quail that I incubated a few years ago. We got them primarily to be pets to be kept with us indoors. As time passed we lost some of our birds to health issues like egg bindings and reproductive cancer, and this year we decided to get some already sexed birds so our last one wouldn't be lonely.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Right now we just have three quail hens. We actually got them to be companions for our male quail but he sadly passed away shortly before we got them.

(3) What breeds do you have?

They are all coturnix quail with different color morphs (english white, manchurian golden, and tuxedo I believe)

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

I love how they all have their own little personalities and their cute chirps. Even though they aren't as cuddly as other pet birds, I still enjoy caring for them and having a small flock in the home (even with all the extra sweeping lol).

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I love hiking, photography, foraging for mushrooms and edible plants, game development, and my dualsport bike! If it gets me outside I'm probably gonna like it.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

My husband and I would really love to have a flock of chickens someday as well, we just can't commit to it yet because we'd want to own our own place with more space for them first and I don't know when or if that will happen someday with how expensive home ownership is where we live. Part of the reason we got the quail is because they can be kept in our current home. Some of my favorite chicken breeds that I'd put on my "dream flock" list would be (in no particular order): Buff Orpington, Wyandotte, Salmon Faverolle, Sebright, Serama, and Dutch Bantam!

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

When we got our first quail a few years ago and were researching how to take care of them and what to look out for, there were a lot of helpful resources here. Just about any google search would point to a thread or article from this forum, so thank you everyone for sharing your knowledge!

I finally decided to join this week after we got some quail pullets from a local breeder that are in poor health and I wanted to be able to ask questions about some of the behaviors and symptoms we're seeing (I would like to go in more detail on it in a separate thread but the short version is that two of them are quite lethargic and have puffy eyelids/labored breathing when at rest and one has an injured foot that I'm not sure is bumblefoot or something else).
