Growing Fodder

This morning more of the same thing, the lower end is growing like mad and the rest is napping.

This mornings photo. I'm going to feed the left half of the left bin to the chickens before we take off for the weekend. I've got my automatic sprinkler setup just need to make a rack for the bathtub. So much good information on here to soak in...

Girls will get the starting of my Fodder today, in the afternoon as I will let them out to range in an hour . Once I put them in the run I will give the fodder and see how it goes.
It's rye so it is about 1-1/2 high and reddish, but the very tip is green.
I have Wheat starting now so will be ready in about 4 days.

How long are you letting it grow? What I've read is 7-10 days depending on temperature. And to a height of 4"-6".

I have a second batch going now for a few days and it's about 2" tall.

I have read all over about what is best, what they eat but what is more Nutritious is what I am after.
I am feeding today mainly because I want to see how they will do. Plus I want to get the Wheat going and I have 3 small bins of the Rye.
I lied, it is more like 2-3 inches tall from the "matt" but not overly dense.

My current batch was soaked overnight and rinsed off the morning of 11-27. Watered every 4 hours for 2 minutes in the bathtub. No grow lights near yet. This morning I moved it to under the grow lights after doing a test with a tubby to see how much water was in the tubby (didn't want them to be submerged at night or flood my bathroom.

They ate it all :)

I am not doing grow lights or anything. Trying as low tech as I can.
On a shelf near south facing window. Rinse in kitchen sink in the AM and PM.
Working fine so far.

Looking good!

I'm stuck using my basement bathroom with no windows so I'm as low tech as I can be with no natural light. Since it's a small room I have a little heat in there to keep it around 70°F.

I tried to make the kitchen bigger but wife said no it's big enough when I was designing the house. Even when I was building the house I kept thinking dang it's too small and sure enough very little counter space was the result of not adding 2' on to the size of the house.
