Grown rooster in brooder?

I haven't got a set up yet with a separate pen for my silkie rooster. I have other chickens but unfortunately due to him being a male and smaller he will get picked on by the other rooster/hens. (They are all bigger than him) I have the silkie chicks in the brooder but I am wondering will it be okay if he's in there? The brooder is big enough for him and he can walk around easily.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

I've mixed silkies together that were 6-8 weeks apart just fine. You'll have to try it and see though.

I wouldn't do it with chicks just a couple of weeks old or less though as he'd trample them.

We have a year old rooster hanging out with ones that are 4-months old just fine.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

You mean IN the brooder, not next to? I would not put him in with the chicks. I would raise the chicks near him so they can all see each other but not touch. Then when the chicks are around 5 weeks old, I would fashion a chick door in the brooder so they could come out but he could not get in and let them intermingle under supervision. If he is a true to age, experienced rooster and not a cockerel, he should do well with them. If he's still an inexperienced hormonally induced idiot, all bets are off.
