Guard Goose...to coddle or not to coddle? That is my question.

I only have one. Going off of Joel Salatin's advice to only have one per flock when it comes to having a goose specifically as a "guard goose."

Yeah, that's bad advice. Having just one doesn't make it more likely to 'guard' your animals and as was said, they're really not guard animals anyway. You should start trying to find another one :)

Oh, boy... another goose? I guess I need to move this thread to the forum entitled "What have I gotten myself into?" (does such a forum exist?) because I know that I'm not alone in this department. A year ago we had one dog. Now one year later we have 4 sheep, 41 chickens, 1 goose (with maybe another on the way?), and still one dog. Party on, poultry people! Party on!

Yep, definitely need another goose, lol. That morefowl disease sure does sneak up on you.

I coddled the heck out of both of mine and still do. Neither of them are aggressive to me or my children. Both of my geese love interaction. They enjoy human company and love to swim in the pond with the kids. The male, in fact is very protective and territorial of me and my children when a "stranger" enters the area.
