Guinea Fowl - When will they fly/roost?

My young guineas can and do fly very well. It's not uncommon for them to be on the roof of the buildings. My young ones right now are 2 and 3 months old. But at this age mine are usually walking when they are exploring their territory. They may not free range too far from their 'safe' area until the following spring. My adults will range all over 30 to 40 acres but the young ones stay close to the buildings for the 1st year. The only time I see them fly is when the adults are chasing them or they get scared by something. ;)

Guinea keets usually begin flying by the time they are one week old. If yours are not flying it could be due to several different reasons. Jumbo or French guineas are not as good at flying as are the normal guineas. If they had their wings clipped, they would have a difficult time flying and if they were pinioned they would not be able to fly and will never be able to fly.
What does pinioned mean?

Welcome to BYC hope you enjoy your time here! Maybe were able to fly and roosting by 2 weeks and they fly well although not very often yours may have been raised in a confining environment hence they may never have been able to practice but clipping and pinioning are also possibilities...if they are I would highly recommend keeping them up because without flight they are sitting ducks for predators
