My guinea hen has been getting meds since Saturday for an upper respiratory infection. Obviously, she has gotten stronger and tonight she cut her throat with her own claw while I was trying to wrap her in a towel. She’s lost a lot of blood. A friend suggested to use unflavored gelatin to stop the bleeding. It seemed to have worked, but she lost a lot of blood. Any suggestions on what to do for a lot of blood loss?

Poor girl! I am so sorry she cut herself and lost so much blood, it sounds very stressful, I hope she recovers well!

What you did to stop the bleeding is good! As for helping her recover from the blood loss, you can feed her something with high-protein, like scrambled eggs. Make sure to provide her with water, and it is a good idea to add electrolytes to her water, such as Nutri-Drench or this homemade electrolyte recipe. You can also give her garlic in her water by crushing fresh garlic and adding it to her water. Make sure to use half a clove per 4 pints or four cloves per gallon. Turmeric also helps the circulatory system, and you can give her 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder in her water as well. I wish you the best of luck with her, she is a beautiful Guinea hen!
