I came outside to sit with my chickens and my dad came in too, my birds have coccidiosis and I told my dad not to be ruff and mess with them which he completely ignored and continued on. After about 30 minutes he caught one of the guineas and picked her up about 4 feet off the ground and then she struggled he drooped her but held her foot tighter than her body and when she fell she flipped and landed on her wing and now she’s holding it low and is staying away from the other birds. After he dropped her he kept trying to catch and mess with the others and I told him to leave them alone which he replied with “whether you like it or not I payed for them and I can mess with them all I want” and then 15 minutes later he left. Here’s the hen that fell she hatched in May. image.jpg

First off your dad is an idiot. If he is going to be abusive to animals then maybe you shouldn't have them until you have your own place.

When she is roosting for the night go in and check her wing to make sure it's not broken. Feel from her body all along the bony edge for and sharp areas or gaps in the bone. If there is a break you will probably have to separate her from the others so she can stay calm and heal. But let us know what you find so people will know what advise to get.

Hopefully it's not broken. You should also check the leg he was holding onto to make sure it's not sprained.

1. Don’t call him that he thinks I’m babying them and that he can rough house with them like dogs
2. Already did and it’s not broken she made it to the roost fine but it hangs low and she won’t flap it

The leg is fine, he didn’t hold it he just had it tighter so when she scratched him and jumped she spun in the air and landed on the wing

I'm sorry to hear that she was injured. She's cute isn't she. I've never had Guinea Fowl, but I find them interesting looking and like the feathers and helmet and face:D

Likely the wing sprained and sore from landing on it.

Sometimes a bird will hold a wing (or leg) in a more comfortable position for a few days while they heal. Hanging the wing low and not flapping it is probably where it's the least sore.

Give her about 3 days and see if she starts to hold it up in a more normal position.

I have a hen that somehow seemed to have sprained or injured her wing, she held it in a drooping position for a few days, then slowly started working it back into a more normal position. If I remember right, it took a couple of weeks for her to be able to fly high up into the rafters to roost in her normal spot again, but she seemed to heal just fine.

This morning she seems to be in less pain, even though it’s drooping she ran out of the run fast with her other little Guinea friends

I'm not sorry for saying that. I know he's your dad and you love him.
He is an adult and should know better. You can't treat all creatures the same. Most adults have some comprehension of that.

Does he even feel bad that he injured the Guinea? Or does he still think it's all a big joke and he can do whatever he wants even if it scares or hurts the birds?

If he's a good person he will realize he is wrong and will stop roughing up the birds.

I'm glad her wing isn't broken and I hope it heals completely.
