Guineas have shipped

I gave the keets a day to settle in. They are doing very well. They peek their heads out from under the heater when I call them so I decided to start handling them today. They were so nervous and scared. All but one of them pooped on me. We're off to a great start. 😄
You e had them two days? Your doing great if there’s been no mortality on shipped keets!

Guinea update. They are a week old today and doing great. I originally ordered 5 but an extra was added at shipping so there are 6. They are so cute when they hear my voice and come running out from under the heater. I want to begin training with treats to help with returning to the coop later on. I keep reading about millet as a treat but don't know anything about it. Where to buy? TSC, pet store, grocery store? Is there one that's better? Any other type treats that these little babies can have? Thanks. I'll try and get a group pic so you can see how cute they are.

I'm lucky that I have a feed store where I can get 50 LB bags of white millet but before they started ordering it for me I went to our local Walmart and they had white millet in 10 Lb bags for tweet bird feeders. You can also try some greens like clover or different grasses. Celery is a good option, cut in small pieces to, just make sure you have chick grit for whatever you feed them.

Well, the gang is 2 weeks old now. I think all I do is clean and feed them. They have been on paper towels so far. When can start them on something else? I have hay and fine pine shavings on hand. Will either of those work? Can't find white millet anywhere. Stopped at a feed store and they had no clue what I wanted. He gave me a spray millet twig from his store birds inventory. They didn't like that either. What should I order from them for the guineas? Can chickens eat millet as well? Thanks.

Anytime now. Just be sure to have appropriate sized grit available to them.

Hold off on treats for awhile til older. I order my millet from someone on amazon bc straight millet not an option around here that I've seen. Otherwise, you ,earn by trial & error what they like. Much of what ppl use mine refuse, ie dried worms, shrimp, scrambled eggs, oatmeal:barnie
But then I learned they'll dance for celery, love cabbage, Brocolli and cauliflower leaves, a myriad of herbs, chives, borage & Nasturtium leaves. When we had a super hot day they munched on a bit of watermelon but didnt eat all of it.
I think it's what they are exposed to 1st they develop an appetite for. Starting to wonder if they've forgotten tics. @Mixed flock enthusiast in another thread ya'll were relating the creepy crawly no tolerance for things you each had; at the time I cldnt think of anything bc spiders, bees, snakes, lizards, mice don't much bug me. Today I remembered...TICS!!!!:barnie:barnie:barnie:barnie:oops:
