Hello, I just completed a 8x10 chicken roof with slanted roof. On the lower roof portion I will be adding a gutter feeding into my rain barrels. I wanted to know if I add gutters on the two other sides feeding into main gutter is it needed or will it even matter. So basically other than highest portion do I need gutter on three side or just lowest portion?

thank you.

Interesting question. It's hard to say whether such an investment will be profitable. Still, gutters on the sides of the roof will definitely allow you to collect more water. The rain can come from different directions every time. And if there is also a lot of wind to accompany the rain? Then you may get even less water. I suppose if it's not too much trouble for you to install additional gutters, you can do it. It won't be a hindrance. Otherwise, it's best to abandon this idea. Although the materials are not too expensive nowadays, I managed to buy siding even cheaper than I thought.

The amount of water you get wouldn't be worth the effort and money to put them on the sides, IMO.
After all the rain we added gutters to the coop and put a tarp over the netting! Got a rain barrel, wanted to put it by the coop but hubby nixed that idea this year. Saying it wouldn't fill up. I think he'll do it next spring. 😂
