My chick has hair stuck in its mouth and when I went to pull their was resistance so I stopped

This same chick 30 min earlier had to be removed from the brooder because she started bleeding from her and then all pecking at her tail feathers (I removed her stopped the bleeding and used Vetericyn)

I’m a bit overwhelmed, any advice? She is 2 weeks old

Mostly concerned about the hair

Pictures may help! Sounds like that really needs to come out but it is gonna probably be tricky. I definitely wouldn't force anything until an expert takes a look and advises you.

Do you have anyone who can help gently restrain the chick for better pictures and examination?

She swallowed the hair, she’s acting normal otherwise but it was a long one I know because it had to have come from me

I wrote my original post on a bit of a panic but I want to make sure you know the blood part is from her tail feathers only and unrelated

I’m just overwhelmed because a lot has happened in such a short time

Oooh, well that is better than hair wrapped around the tongue! I'm not sure how that might impact your chick but certainly not the worst thing I've heard of a chicken swallowing! I'd just keep an eye on her to make sure she keeps pooping and crop keeps moving things along. :)

So the others pecked her tailfeathers until they bled?

Someone will be here to help me and make sure about the tongue in about an hour

And yes I luckily was in the same room right as it happened, I looked over and they were all pecking at her and she was pecking at it too

Aw. Well as you've got the bleeding under control, hopefully they will forget about it and leave her be? You can try distracting them with boiled eggs or another treat and observe to make sure they all behave for a bit.

Chicks can be so mischievous! Keep us posted on how things go. 😃

Are all of the chicks the same age? Are any older. Any red color from blood will attract pecking and cause injury. I have used BluKote spray to cover a red wound. Are hou using a brooder lamp or a heat plate ? How much room do they have in their brooder? Hairs can get wrapped around the tongue, and if they swallow them, it can pull the tongue down the throat as the hair goes down to the crop and later to the gizzard. I would try to make sure the tongue looks okay and nothing is wrapped around it.
