I haven't incubated in about a year, and my incubator has been sitting. I'd say I'm pretty good at at , I have a great hatch rate. But like I said its been a year. So here I go like a true sociopath buying a dozen serama eggs for $75. Cz ya know, why not
I'm use to tiny eggs and early hatching cz I own several tiny OEGBs but they are pretty great at hatching in most environments.
I've hatched close to 40 times and have about a 98% hatch rate average. I hatch more bantys than anything but I have both SF and Bantams and hatch both. So I'm no stranger to the game.
Anyway here we go,
Picked up sorta local, not shipped. Set up my incubator 2 days prior, collected a few of my ayem cemani olive egger eggs and a few cochin/ameracauna eggs and got all my eggs set on the Sept 28th.
14 serama eggs
10 standard eggs
Throughout the following 7 days I have NEVER been so on edge and nervous. Reasons
Random Super high temp spikes (100.7+)
Random Super low temp drops (97.7)
Humidity issues but I finally got it leveled out
Sadly It seems my incubator was left to its own devices for far too long and it developed an addiction cz it's acting like a crack head now. But oh well it's too late now to do anything. So I too am now act like a crackhead up at all hours of the night checking eggs, Im afraid to leave the house cz what if the temp decides to drop it like it's hot , as soon as I pull up in the driveway I run to the incubator like I need a fix. It's exhausting tbh
So paranoia is real at this point cz ya know... They are SERAMA eggs. And not only were they EXPENSIVE but they are fickle.
I have finally found a way to keep it stable somewhat.
Candled day 7
2 lavalamp seramas (unfertilized)
2 lavalamp standard eggs
10 happy healthy jumping bean seramas
2 unsure seramas so I left them in the incubator cz it's hard to see through the shell for some reason
So, now we are here. I will candle again on day 10 (2moro) to check if air cell growth has doubled. Still having temp issues but hey if they are thriving in these conditions, these little freaks will obviously be sociopaths as well cz like I said they are seramas and serama are fickle eggs to hatch.
I will more than likely lock down on Day 15 or 16 since they usually hatch on day 18. I will be using a better incubator for lockdown. I just didn't want to risk moving them in that early stage where it's more critical.
So I'm gonna need help with names for the survivors of
this Trainwreck of a hatch.
