I purchased 27 Cornish Crosses and the first day a chick passed. This is to be expected, a couple of days later another one passed. Around week 2, I checked on the brooder and there was a chick, laying on its back under the light and panting like crazy. I thought it was dead and pulled it out. I put it in a plastic fish tank type container and was going to put it out of its misery but figured it was good as gone anyways. I left it in the tank on its back in the garage with not heat. I came back in about 2 hours and it righted itself up. It appeared to have a bum leg, it was stretched out and couldn't walk or stand. I was shocked, I honestly thought it was going to die.
I brought the chick inside, limited its movement and fed and watered it. End of the story is it is doing well and two weeks later is out in the chicken tractor with the rest!
A little miracle chick.
