We are building our coop and run, not as fast as the chickens are growing however!!

I want to use the 1/2 hardwire mesh for the run as I have heard that chicken wire is not good enough protection against predators.

I am have a REALLY hard time finding the wire! Or if I find it it is super expensive, we need about 150 ft.

Any ideas?

You can start out with welded wire with a larger mesh for the whole run then do Hardware cloth in all the places where the chickens might get close to the welded wire. Lots of people have success with that. Unless you are wanting to keep rats out or something like that.

How wide do you need.

For my run i used the 1/2 wire mesh, and it works great, ive had nothing even touch my girls. But the wire did cost a pretty pennie, so what you could do is use chicken wire, but double or even triple the layer. It would make the wire much sturdier and help keep out any predators. Good luck, and i hope all goes well

It's called hardware cloth and you can get it at pretty much any hardware, home improvement store like Lowes or Home Depot and I have even seen it at our feed stores. You can also find it online. 150 feet will run you about $150 pretty much anywhere.

Lowes, Home Depot and Menards have it 3' and 4' in height and in rolls of 25' - 50'
But I found a much better deal at my local Hardware store - Rothbury Hardware in Rothbury, MI has it 3' x 100' for $90! Thats the cheapest I saw it any place - You might want to check with your local hardware store and local feed stores first

We just finished my moms coop over the weekend and even had some of the 100' roll left over after building a 5' x 10' approximate coop:

Just ordered some today from csnstores.com. 2 rolls 1/2 mesh 4' x 50 $117.04 and 1 roll 5'x 150' 1" mesh poultry wire for $81.84
Shipping was free. Some things on the site were listed as free shipping but in my goofing around with the shopping cart it seemed that orders over $100 got free ground shipping. Thanks to the person that posted the link to this place. You were right it's the best price I have found yet. Beat our lowe's, home depot and TSC by a long shot.
