Hardware cloth and chicken wire.

Consider that a strong dog can easily rip through chicken wire. It is just twisted together, not welded like hardware cloth. I would bet that a badger could easily rip through chicken wire as well if an English badger is similar to an American badger.

Saw a a dog rip a hole in a steel chain link dog kennel once.Now the only thing I trust is 16 gauge 1/2" galvanized steel hardware cloth reinforced with screws and washers,etc...

12" up is not a great distance, could be chewed upon by a canine standing on hind legs. How far into the ground?
Might be better and easier to lay across top of ground, or buried a couple inches.

What are the dimensions and gauge of the mesh you are using?
Hardware cloth....1/2" x 1/2" x 19 gauge?
Chicken Wire.....1" from flat to flat x 23 gauge?

Thank you for these links. I was just doing a search for more info on skirts around a run.

I am in process of building a new coop/run, and have plans for the skirt to be buried 3 inches deep, and extend 3 feet out from the run fencing. I will be using either 1/2 inch/19 gauge hardware cloth, or 1 inch/16 gauge. I have been back and forth between the two. One is a heavier gauge, the other smaller mesh.

I will be using 1/2 hc to fence in the run.

I was planning on using 1/4 inch hc on the windows of the coop, but it is only 23 gauge. I wanted smaller for the smaller varmints and snakes. Should I also layer it with 1 inch hc for larger animals?
