Has anyone ever tried an electric bug zapper? Does it work for flies?

I dont have mosquitos. only icky flies. They love chicken food, poo etc. Ive tried DE. Tried chemicals. Tried traps and sticky traps and smelly traps and fly paper. So, what about the bug zappers. I specifically saw the Flowtron Electronic Insect Killer but it doesnt say much about flies. Any one try this?

No bug zapper but I hear a lot on here about vanilla scented pine trees try them should work.

Yes it should work, but be careful about electricity and water outdoors and they are not designed to get wet!

You can feed all the BBQ zapped flies to you chickens as a snack!

Where are the flies coming from? Maybe you need to do a clean out of the coop?

I used a bug zapper for mosquitoes as there were swarms of them in my coop in the evening, and my chickens got fowl pox from them. But I stopped using it as it acted to actually attract MORE mosquitoes to the blue light at night. Now I covered the small coop with a mosquito net - problem solved.

Have you ever tried the hand held electric fly swatter? They usually work pretty well!!

I dont know where they are coming from. There werent any flies when we moved in, then one day they hatched or something and we had tons. A week later we got our chickens. They like the poo, but the chickens freerange on our grass most of the day and the sprinklers seem to wash it "away" everyday. We only have 3 chickens. The flies love the chicken food, even when it is dry, even when it is mixed with DE. I try to keep everything as clean as possible. I think I am waiting for cooler weather.

we have had great success with DE AFTER i learned not to be stingy with it. we use a flower sifter to spread it, as well as throwing hand fulls over the litter and food. tossed in coop on perches and ledges, mixed in with the sand and dirt in dust bathing areas. we even use it on fire ant mounds with good success.

the flies loved the turkey food and 20 turkeys attract a lot of flies until DE is nearly abused

I use DE and vanilla scented trees in the coop. The bug zapper works for flies if you put the bait for the flies , mine has a place for it..
