Has anyone used this before? I had it in my hands in the store, was so tempted to buy it, but for $95.99? I might as well Use a $7 bulb, I've never lost a chick since 2014 in the first place.

A lot of folks use and like brooder plates -- an alternative would be to use the "mama heat pad" (you can read about it by searching that phrase here). There are definite advantages over a heat lamp -- the first being that it allows for a natural day/night cycle for the birds as well as more closely matching the natural rearing of a warm broody hen under which they huddle occasionally to warm up with more time out in the "natural" temperature of the brooder vs. the larger heat footprint from a heat lamp which often heats an entire brooder, depending on size.

You just kept your wallet from being robbed IMO. You can brood more chicks, more efficiently, more naturally with a heating pad for 1/3 the cost. Check out the second article written by Blooie highlighted in my signature.

Yep, couple of feet from the store's cash register, when common sense hit my head, LOL. I had thought of making one out of seeding heat pad that same day since I had it in my hand too, chuck it off due to my busy lifestyle. I've already set up the lamps (bright day mode and dim night mode on timers and the chicks are entering their 2nd week tomorrow and thriving), Ive decided to stay on what works well with me from the get go w/ extreme cautions of course. Thanks for validating my decisions!
