So we have a Brahma roo with a butt/vent problem. His poo is really runny and constant. I've noticed some worms so my husband went to tractor supply and talked to our "go to chicken lady" and she said she uses this on her birds and it always works. I also have kitten wormer we got today too just in case. When I say he has a butt problem I mean his whole back end and all down his legs are covered in poo. I thought t first that it was mud and I cleaned him and after a couple days he looks just as bad and that's when I noticed worms. So if anyone has used this and had success with it please tell me how well it worked and how long it took to take effect.

With diarrhea that bad I would worm with something more mainstream. Did you see roundworms?

I'm not sure what they were. What do you suggest? What I have isn't a name brand it's called crazy cat. If you give me a few mins I'll get the ingredients-- right now I'm feeding the new little one and can't get it yet.

Most people use Safeguard Equine paste or Valbazen.
Valbazen was expensive but it gets rid of more worm types and you only do it twice, 10 days apart.
For roundworms you dose the Safeguard the same but it's for roundworms only. You have to give 5 days in a row for other worms.

Okay I'll have to Google pics of these worms this stuff I have is for roundworms only too. The active ingredient is piperazine citrate 55mg. If I can't use it I'll get safeguard.

Can you get some photos of the worms?
You mention that he's covered in poop and you see worms? Can you give him a bath and take a look to make sure he doesn't have a wound/compromised skin around the vent and the worms are not maggots?

I agree with @hayley3 it would be better to use Fenbendazole to treat a worm infestation. Safeguard liquid goat wormer would be good to get. Dose is .23ml per pound of weight given orally for 5 days. This dose and length of time will take care of most intestinal worms that poultry can have except for tapeworms.

If possible, take back the Durvet Strike III and the Crazy Cat. Piperazine will treat roundworms only, personally I would get the Safeguard.

IF you discover that worms you see are coming from a wound and are maggots, please let us know - that will require different treatment and wound care.

Just a note on the Durvet. I understand the lady at the store said it works for her, but a question would be - Has she ever had a worm infestation? Just because she's used a product and never saw worms doesn't mean it "works". Some folks don't seem to have parasite issues, while the neighbor next door does.
Also. Personally, I don't see anything in the ingredient list that is concerning or bad. I like Durvet products - but read all of that labeling.
There is nothing on the packaging nor does Durvet claim that this product is a de-wormer.
It's offers "digestive support". Marketing at it's finest.
Also, to be fair...Durvet at one time DID manufacture a Strike III that was a de-wormer. The active ingredient was an antibiotic ( Hygromycin B ) which acted as an anthelmintic too. From memory, it did work well. Antibiotics were banned/taken out of supplements and feed in the US at least 5 years (maybe more) ago. Possibly folks never paid attention to the change? Who knows LOL
Anyway - let us know how he is - sorry for the long post, my fingers and brain are on a roll tonight:lol:

I use safe-guard. I have a lot of birds so it works best for me. I shut off their water in the evening when they go in to roost and put the treated water out and when the birds go out in the morning the first thing they do is head for the water. Works well for me. Fenbendazole (safe-guard) can be added to water to worm your chickens; 4cc per gallon of water, leave it out for them to drink 2 days in a row, then discard, it must be their sole source of water during those 2 days. 14 days later dose them with the safe-guard (fenbendazole) 10% suspension liquid goat wormer; 3cc per gallon of water. Leave it out for 2 days, then discard.
There is no egg withdrawal period for hens being treated with Fenbendazole AKA Panacur and safe-guard...
