I just purchased a used very old GQF Sportsman 1202 (I think). It's definitely a 1200 series nonetheless.
What I am wondering about is hatching accessories and what brands may be interchangeable. I see generic type companies who make various things like hatching trays and incubation things and was wondering if anyone is aware of what might fit into the model of GQF I have. Can I only use GQF accessories and parts or will other brands work too?
Is there a brand of wafers that people like the best? I need to replace the wafers in mine. I also need to figure out what's going on with my turners. It works on manual both directions but when I switch it to automatic to does turn at all. Does anyone know what part I might need to replace?
And then there is the issue of the best thermometer/hygrometer to use in it? I plan to drill small holes on three levels (the original hole was sealed up prior to me obtaining the machine) because with the current thermometer probe I have and the warped wafers I am seeing a 2-3 degree temperature difference between the top and bottom levels. Is that acceptable or should it be better once I replace the wafers?
I'm mainly interested in trays and baskets that allow me ease of movement when changing levels (I don't want to have to move individual eggs at a time to ensure none get dropped). And I need to be able to separate eggs while incubating and hatching so they can be banded to their lineage after hatch and I plan to stagger hatches and move them to one of three styrofoam incubators I have for the actual hatching so some kind of tray if they even exist that allows to them to be moved from the GQF to my styrofoam incubator and remain separated and not have to individually move them would be nice. I do not candle eggs until lockdown.
Anyways any tips and suggestions are greatly appreciated
