Hawaii -- Mongoose Issues

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

So sorry for all the troubles you've had to deal with. :(

For cracks in eggs, clear fingernail polish or melted wax, like even a melted color crayon dripped over the crack, will help. That's for one or two cracks, but if it's spider-webbed or multiple cracks, then it's pretty much a lost cause.

Hopefully, you'll have a great hatch and then some healthy little chicks!

While the Invasive Species guys deny we have mongooses on Kaua'i, we spotted 2 over the last 2 years in Kalaheo near the coffee fields. Something made two large holes in our coop (coated chicken wire over a metal frame) one night and shredded all hens but left the eggs. Anyone else on Kaua'i having this issue, or ideas as to what got our hens? The coop now has 1/4 hardware cloth over the chicken wire.

I saw your other post about this, so sad.

Did you see this OP caught one? It's in the introduction.

"I Was Able To Catch The Mongoose And Deal With That Issue. I Was Using Turkey Gizzard (frozen turkey) As A Bait, And That Really Caught The Mongoose Quick. Using Corned Beef Did Not Attract The Mongoose."

Sorry to read about your losses. You might try posting on your state thread (if you haven't already) to see how others are dealing with this issue: Hawaii state thread
