Healing leg injury

Hello,

I posted awhile back about a little d’uccle that was sent to me that came with a broken/swollen hock. I’ve tried wrapping with self-adhesive wrap. No matter how lightly I would wrap her toes would turn purple so I removed it. I’ve tried making a chick chair (to which it would escape). I’m not sure what else to do. It is still limping and clearly has a swollen hock joint. It’s eating well and is accepted by the others. I add vitamins supplements every once in awhile to their water. Any other suggestions or best advice how to wrap it better? I don’t mind if my chickens look a little wonky as long as they aren’t in pain, but the poor thing is hobbling around everywhere. I’ll update with a video later.

Photos of the swollen joint and how she stands would be helpful.

Video would be good too.

Have you been giving any vitamins that contain B2 (Riboflavin)?

Your thread from a while back for reference:

Yes, I use a water supplement that has Riboflavin in it. I’ve also separated my standards from the bantams so they don’t get run over. It’s leg is also starting to face out, but I’m afraid if I treat it like splay leg that she won’t be able to move at all.
Let me try to attach the video.

More likely you are dealing with a slipped achilles tendon. It can be genetic or from dietary deficiencies in the parent stock. When not corrected it can result in a twisted leg. This is very painful. Since this has been going on for a while, it may or may not be fixable, their legs are growing so fast, it's best to try as early as possible. I will attach a link with some treatment options. Sometimes vet care is the only possible option if you want to or are willing to incur the expense. Sometimes surgery is an option, results can vary.

In this video you can see the tendon slipping in and out of place on a younger chick:

My poor little baby. Ugh. Thank you!! She really is a fighter! I just want to be able to help her and for her to accept the help

Sling model #2. She’s still able to get a wing out 🙄 she really is an escape artist, but I keep trying to keep her off of the leg. The hock really isn’t flexible, but I keep helping her stretch and lightly tape on and off. This is a really active chick so she’s not one that like the sling or chairs… or wrap. Her leg still turns outwards. Should I also brace her legs like you would to treat splay leg?

Okay, another update since she escapes every single chair and swing…
I found some craft foam and cut it length to use as a cast/splint. She hates it, but she’s finally standing evenly supported.
So much work for a chick I never ordered 😂 Just hoping she heals and she makes it!
