Heart of a Dragon

"Not much right now. I just need your help with looking for hints and clues. I'm usually busy with Lemaitre's missions, so I need you to pick up my slack. Just question all new arrivals, and whatever you do, don't leave the gates. The shadowy shapes have a way of finding helpless newbies lost in the woods," he decided, his mouth quirking.
(I'M SO SORRY ERI I FORGOT THIS EXISTED 😭 Here we go again!)

Astra made a show of thinking about it for a moment, then said, "Okay. Sure. But I am not helpless." She snapped her fingers and made a flame appear in her palm, making some newbies across from them gasp. "And I'm used to fighting shadows..." Her eyes turned dark. "Long story there... anyway, I'll do it. Just don't get me in trouble."

(If it's okay with you I'm gonna do Aster's pov until you get back)

Aster rolled his eyes. "Why would I get you in trouble... Whatever, fine, I accept your help. Thanks." He looked away, feeling awkward for no reason at all at thanking her. He turned back to his food and ignored the fact that she was watching him.

Astra was trying not to laugh. Aster's awkwardness around her was hilarious. She watched him turn back to his plate and start eating again, ignoring her entirely. He's weird... She followed his example, focusing on her food and thinking about what she should do when she finished eating. Hm... He said not to go outside the gates, but I think I'll go for a little hike. I hate feeling trapped. This is worse than prison, because I'm supposed to be happy staying in here. She put her empty plate in the stack of others, then started walking back to her room to get her knife. On her way there, she couldn't resist leaning down and whispering in Aster's ear as she passed him "I'm going out. If you wanna stop me you'll have to catch me first." before taking off at a sprint. She hurried to thread her knife on her belt and get outside before Aster took her up on her tease. She climbed the wall and sat on top of the gatepost, waiting for Aster so she could antagonize him more by running off as soon as he saw her.

Aster fingered his ear, warm from her breath. What an odd girl, flapping around like a bat set ablaze. If she wanted to play tag, though, he could oblige. His wristbands sat comfortably on his arms, a reminder of safety. Spreading his wings, he launched himself out the window, leaving his plate on the table. In addition, Astra seemed to have forgotten the best part of her -- the wings. He stretched them luxuriously and scanned the area. Then he saw two things.

One was a smug-looking Red-winged girl, sitting cockily on the gate, balanced like an acrobat.

The other was a blot of black, silhouetted against the wall, like no shadow he had ever seen, darker than spilled ink.

Aster's heart skipped a beat.
