Tried the Natural Defense; wasn't impressed.
btw, when you vacuum - & you need to vacuum every single day for at least 2-3 weeks to break the flea breeding cycle -- suck up some boric acid powder or sevin dust first or else cut up a flea collar & suck a piece into your vac cannister every time you vacuum, & it'll kill the fleas as you suck them up.
I try to go as natural as possible & believe me, in La. we have plenty of humidity & heat that fleas just love -- I use a mix of boric acid powder, DE (diatomaceous earth) & sevin dust - 1/3 - 1/3 - 1/3 mixture & sprinkle it all around the outside perimeter of the house & yard next to the house where our dogs go out to potty. DE contains silicates & will permeate & kill any soft bodied insect. You do have to reapply it after it rains.
Capstar works good in the short term to kill fleas but is only good for a day or so. Original Dawn detergent will kill fleas; soap them up good & let it sit on them for a good 5-10 minutes then rinse it out.
There are a couple of oral monthly flea meds that are supposed to be very good but my dogs have sensitive stomachs so I've never tried them.
Something else that works and is cheap is salt. Salt your carpets, sprinkle it everywhere, and it dries them up. The bug bombs work, but you HAVE to do it every 7 days for at least 3 weeks. DG is a good place to get them, and I had to use them a couple of times and they did the trick. Worries me about the toxins, but sometimes you just have to do what you gotta do to get things under control.
The best way to kill these fleas dead is Advantage or Frontline. It needs to be applied monthly because each flea now is producing thousands of little eggs to hatch out next month. I hate fleas, terrible pest. Good luck to you.
As a word of caution, if you have cats--DO NOT put DOG flea medications on CATS. Always use CAT flea meds on cats! Very important!
