(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We first got chickens in 2011. We had to take a 12-year break and got chickens again in the middle of last year.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
40 hens, 1 rooster
(3) What breeds do you have?
Black Australorp, Whiting True Blue, Red Star
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Fresh eggs any time I want with far better quality than the grocery store.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Writing books, loving my children, stargazing
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I live in a very rural community. My book writing career is starting to take off, along with my publishing business. We currently have 7 cats and 6 dogs. We have 3 children. My wife has a degree in Ranch and Lifestock Management, so she is in charge of all things animal.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I've visited BYC several times over the last few months. Today I came across posts about needing to register with the state. So I realized I need to be part of a community. This community.
