What in the quack?Hello Jacob, welcome to BackYard Chickens. Thank you for joining our community.
Not there yet, bought the property and moving end of month! Currently in Denver, CO.Willis Point I see. Up North from me. How's the weather?
Welcome Jacob and family! This is a great forum. Thank you both for your service. My hubby and I just flipped houses for the last 4 years and it's getting too hard now so we retired. Hope you love your chickens. I do ( hubby does now that they're laying lol) . No they are very entertaining. We just got ours last Sept. We have a flock of 5 also . I would suggest using deep litter method. I use pine shavings ( fine) for my bedding and nest boxes. Only scoop out big stuff once a week . We built feeders out if 4" pvc and that has worked great. We built our coop and run last fall. It's cold here in NE so we also built a heated water system DIY. I'm rambling on... Just wanted to welcome and send pics when they get there.Hey group! My name is Jacob Billett. My wife and I are both veterans and finally, after all these years, able to buy a plot of land in Texas and finally start living our dream!
We bought 16 acres in Willis Point, Texas and I am excited to get back to my roots and raise our baby girl on a farm. We just bought a coupe with a little fence and 5 chickens (about a year old), sight unseen, that we are picking up once we close on the house and move down there at the end of this month.
They said that they average about an egg a day, so this will be our "starter" investment in chickens!
Our goal for this property is to make a truly unique ranch and trophy fishery (there is a stocked 3.5-acre lake on the property) with chicken farming, horse boarding, farm produce, and other ventures.
