Welcome to BYC & thank you for rescuing those chicks! I agree with @sourland and @DobieLover a secure run is needed.
I live in a mild climate (except when it pours rain) and I never had a predator problem until last year. I went years with only an occasional hawk, eagle sightening or the occasional bobcat after dark. Last year the raccoons started coming around during the day and I had to keep the chickens locked in their runs for over a month. I also appreciate the secure run because the chickens can access it 24/7 so there no reason for me to worry about open and closing coop doors.
