Hello everyone!

My husband and I have a hobby farm we started last year after we bought our homestead property. We have chickens, Pekin ducks, Sebastapool and Toulose Geese, Pearl and Pied guinea fowl, 2 cats, and a partridge in a pear tree 😅

Our older hens just started laying (yay no more free loaders!). We have 2 Rhode Island Red roos who protect our girls, 1 black copper marran, 2 barred rock, 3 cream legbars, 1 Ayam cemani, 1 silver laced Wyandotte, 2 olive Eggers, and 1 welsummer. Hoping to find some local small farms in our area this spring to add some more to our flock

It sounds like you are going to have a beautiful egg basket! Have you gotten to taste-test all the different eggs yet to see which is your favorite? Or are only your chickens laying?

I am not trying to be a whatever whatever, but if you get chicks or chickens from another farm, I would just be sure to quarantine them so you keep the rest of your flock safe. Maybe you can purchase hatching eggs from the farm. Purchasing from a hatchery (or day old chicks from a feed store) is a safe option, as well.

I'm excited to see how your flock and homestead grows, so please keep us updated! Welcome to BackYard Chickens!

Thank you! Yes, I've had chickens before so know all about quarantine but thank you 😊

Our duck started laying a few weeks ago. My husband can't wait for the geese to start laying. I'm more a chicken egg kind of girl

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Its always fun when they start laying, we can feel like we did something right. 😁 Nice variety of poultry you keep, makes for a fun bird yard!
