Hello BYC.
Not entirely new to raising chickens but I am new to keeping them in a climate like Phoenix AZ.
As often as a BYC forum page came up in my digging for info, I figured it was time to sign up.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Growing up, my family raised some chickens for eggs and meat on some Washington state acreage.
Haven't been around live birds since I was 12 or so.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
With an end of cul-de-sac lot that's just under 1/4 acre, I figured I'd start with 4-6 and see how it went.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Under the advice of a local shop (Pratt's Pets), I ended up getting 3 Rhode Island Red chicks and 3 Barred Plymouth Rock chicks, all sexed to be hens.
The 6 of them are currently growing out in a converted pet pool with a brood plate.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Always liked having animals around the house, having some that can help with the groceries and garden would be a bonus.
