Feel terrible. I accidentally killed 2 of my 5 chickens. I had 6 but one got taken by stray dogs in August.
But I recently moved from South Dakota to Seattle and was transferring ownership of my chickens to my sister in law rather than take them with me to Seattle.
Well I put the five chickens in cardboard box on a 75 degree day in the back of a UHaul for 30 minutes and happened to stop and check on them and they were having a hard time with the heat. The box seemed big and airy enough and the truck cool enough but I guess I overestimated the hardiness of my chickens. One lasted about another 30 mins in the open air with chest compressions but died.
The other, lasted a whole day and seemed to recover but somehow escaped the chicken tractor and was beset by dogs.
So the remaining 3 are in the hands of my sister-in-law and heading into the cold cold South Dakota winter. I hope they make it. They were tremendous egg producers! I got 4 eggs a day and sometimes 6.
