Hello!
I'm new to having chickens. We got 4 day-old chicks on April 21, 2024. Two Crested Cream Legbars, 1 Cinnamon Queen and 1 black sex-link. They're all now 6 months old.
We had an old garden shed in our backyard so we tore it down and rebuilt it into a coop and enclosed run. It's pretty nice! I call it Cluckingham Palace – but I'm sure I'm not the first one to name my coop that!
I love the girls' antics and their individual personalities. My absolute favourite is when they're free-ranging and they hear me open the back door and they all come running! The sound of their feet slapping on the deck is priceless.
We have one cat who likes to observe the chickens but the chickens are definitely in charge. I love gardening and doing house projects, and we also spend lots of time doing outdoor activities like camping, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, etc.
I joined BYC (via Reddit) because I'm new to caring for chickens and I know that having community support is essential to their quality of life.
