Hello, my name is Monica. I am new to this page. I have chickens, ducks and a goose. Have not yet determined the sex of the goose we believe it’s a girl.We found the goose in our yard when she was a little little baby. We decided to raise her and keep her my question for everybody is she is now starting to pluck her chest feathers does anybody know why and what I can do to stop her from doing this? She is in a fenced area with the ducks, but I let them all out as we walk the property together every day. What can I do to help my baby? As you can see in the photo that I posted where she is plucking her chest.

Hi! Your goose is cute! Yes, like Sean said she is probably going broody (wanting to sit on eggs) and they will pluck breast feathers for the reasons he said plus getting better skin/heat contact with the eggs.

Hopefully you can find her nest since the eggs most likely aren't fertilized if she is your only goose and there'd be no reason for her to sit on them. Maybe she would hatch some other kind of eggs for you, though, if you have any male ducks or chickens.

Thanks for joining and welcome to BYC!

Howdy, Monica :frow and Welcome to Backyard Chickens.

Happy :ya to have you here with us. Enjoy your time here at BYC!

It is a goose, she's plucking her breast feathers to use in making a nest, broody is strong with her!

Thanks for joining our community! :celebrate
Like I said, I am really unsure of if she’s male or female, but there are no feathers in her nest inside of her house where I close them up at night. She seems to do it out in the open in her fenced in pin. She also does it when we’re on our walk when she stops to eat a little I just don’t want my baby to be stressed out. This little goose is extremely important to me.
