so I am a 51 year old single woman who is about to start a self sustainable chicken farm. I want to focus on permaculture as much as possible and basicllly live an amish way excluding their personal life and religious ways. I am looking to purchase some land in southern California and have as many egg layers as I can handle to be able to support myself and the rest of the farm. I am a bit clueless but not at the same time. I have taken classes on permaculture and landscaping/agriculture so I have the basic knowledge and have been trying to educate myself on the chickens as much as I can. I have come here to get any advice possible because I am at a loss of what to do first besides the basics of finding property.

let me add to this saying I am not sure where I am going to start but leaning towards southern california or arizona as long as elevation is not too hight

It sounds like you are on your way! Find some property that allows chickens, get an old shed and convert that into a coop and then get chickens!

You should be able to find tons of inspiration here, and don't be afraid to ask questions as well! We like helping each other here.

Best wishes for all your permaculture plans! Thanks for joining and welcome to BackYard Chickens!
