Hello

Hi there,

Hi there, my name is Shanti and I am an avid bird lover from chickens to ducks, doves, hummingbirds and everything in between. I am currently in the west and I have a family of hummingbirds along with other but I just came here for answers regarding what someone can do if a neighbor intentionally poisons your feed and water for your animals. My hummingbirds I suspect were poisoned by a neighbor who was a bit envious of the birds that would come to my home to feed daily and minutely. They moved in next door and copied my feeder set up. Very bizarre and my birds were not going to her home. Suddenly I can't find one bird at all, I suspect the nectar was poisoned. I've had this same family of birds for many years and now not one is seen... I'm currently getting camera's to set up to catch her. She does suffer from PSTD which she displays on her vehicle. But she's been gloating for a month etc over my birds not going to her home. Any suggestions would be great, or if you have had anyone try to poison your feed or watering, I'd love to hear how you handled it. Thanks so much, and its nice to meet everyone here.

I think your neighbor probably took your advice for how to attract hummingbirds loving your hobby. Unfortunately hummingbirds have migratory patterns like all other birds and will leave for the season and return possibly in the spring. Without any harm to an animal or body it is unlikely anyone is tampering with your set up. Birds also die of natural causes all the time. I think you’ll see them back again if haven’t seen any deaths when they are comfortable to return. If not they have found a better home.

:welcome
Glad you joined our flock! Pull up a roost! :hugs

As for the hummers....she may not have deliberately poisoned her nectar, if she let it go bad (fungus/botulism) that will kill the hummers too. Also the black mold that will grow on the caps. I'm so sorry for you. We've had a family of hummers here for like 10 years now and I look forward to them every April through October. They know me so well they will buzz my head when I'm outside.
